Mr. Ferguson is of counsel to Johnson, Killen & Seiler, P. A.

Whether the case involves a business start-up, a contract matter or issues related to shipping and maritime law, Joe Ferguson takes the same fundamental approach.

“The focus is on solving the client’s problem,” Ferguson says. “We send people to the best lawyer here to solve the client’s problem. That is what we do well here.”

I don’t like to over-think or over-solve problems. I just like to solve them.

Becoming an attorney turned out to be a natural career choice for Ferguson, a Louisiana native who received his law degree from Louisiana State University and his undergraduate degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

“I love working with people, and I love solving problems,” Ferguson says. “The law gives me the tools to solve people’s problems.”

For Ferguson, that means going the extra mile to make solutions as straightforward as possible and reducing complexity for the client.

“I don’t like to over-think or over-solve problems,” he says. “I just like to solve them.”

Ferguson has served as vice chairman of the Minnesota Lawyers’ Professional Responsibility Board. He also has been chairman of Community Action Duluth and has served on the boards of Duluth’s Volunteer Attorney Program, the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce and the Lake Superior Zoo.
